I bought this after accidentally killing the old probe with too much heat. The original thermometer I bought came with a silicone jacketed probe wire along with a very sturdy probe without the crimp where the probe wire enters. From my research, the 364B was the right probe to get, even though the product pictures show the older style probe.

It's a great design, and from what I can tell it's quite water resistant. It's heat resistant as long as you don't go over the rated specs- which I think is in the range of 350 degrees F.

I tested the new probe for accuracy with my old thermometer and it was dead on.

The replacement works fine. The question though, is for how long. The original lasted less than a year.

3.0 out of 5 stars I did not get the one shown in the picture?, April 10, 2011

I did not get the probe shown in the picture. I got the same type of probe that came with the original unit, which has silicone coating instead of metal mesh. The description/label on the box was accurate, but I probably got the older version?
I wanted the metal probe. The silicone got very soft when used in the oven and my the original broke while roasting a duck at proper temp specs in the oven - I bent the cable when pulling the duck out of the oven... So, I fear that this one will not last for long for obvious reasons. Disappointed that this type is not clearly specified as old vs new.
Please comment if you made the same experience or got a metal-coated one?
