It simply is an essential tool done just exactly right. I've had only one unfortunate experience, when a temperamental companion threw it against the wall. Other than that...perfection. It displays the temperature in just 3-4 seconds and has a large display. It is the thermometer used by Cook's Illustrated staff and the best-performing thermometer in tests at cookingforengineers.com. Cons: it isn't waterproof, and you can't use it very well in your left hand (you can't see the display).
